Audio Visual Event Technician 2024

We are seeking a dynamic, engaging individual who will be a team member responsible for the overall day-to-day and special events operations of the GAC community. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Equipment

  • Operate audio-visual-lighting equipment for GAC chapels, rehearsals, performances, and events
  • Set up and strike audio-visual-lighting equipment, including but not limited to lighting equipment, soundboard(s), camera(s), cable(s), speakers, mic(s), projector(s) or display(s)
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of audio-visual equipment and report any issues for repair/replacement
  • Maintain equipment inventory and appropriate AV documentation (use, return, aging, etc.)
  • Clean equipment as needed and store properly
  • Ensure safe transfer of equipment from venue to venue

Training:

  • Cross-train and develop skills among departmental colleagues/AV technicians
  • Train faculty, staff, and students in the use of the venue’s audio-visual equipment
  • Consult and advise users regarding appropriate equipment for their event and coordinate proper cues for the run of the show/production sheet
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Events Department to assure timely scheduling of AV setups and support

Production: 

  • Audio mixing, capturing, editing, and monitoring signal flows and acoustics (70%)
  • Video switching, program lighting, especially for GAC chapel band/class, performances, and various school-venue rentals (30%)
  • Coordinate Live Streaming plus video for various events, as needed
  • Work with computer-controlled lighting/sound/projection system(s) 
  • Work with contractors to ensure safe, high-quality, and timely completion of installations and repairs
  • Produce an edited version of the event(s) in the Event Management Software

 

Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred, with an emphasis on audio/visual/lighting technologies or equivalent experience and credentials (Certified Technology Specialist/CTS)
  • Have a keen ear for sound, a vision for video/lighting in order to make on-the-spot corrections impacting the production
  • Knowledge of each aspect of the live production process is preferred, including but not limited to familiarity with rigging requirements, production power requirements, and general practices in professional production
  • Proficiency is preferred of Midas, AVID digital audio consoles, GrandMA2, Blackmagic Design Systems, Pro tools, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Q Lab, and Pro Adobe Premiere
  • Competence to understand and implement the weekly AVL needs of GAC and making sure they are met proactively and with a positive service attitude

Experience:

  • Experience of 2+ years, with enthusiasm to learn on the job

Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Design, troubleshoot, and operate an audio, video, and lighting system(s) of moderate to high complexity is preferred
  • Model the mission of GAC in all his/her responsibilities
  • Flexibility and availability to work evenings, weekends, and overtime are required 

Other:

  • Performing other related work as needed 
  • Physical abilities: Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time, good hearing/sight.  Ability to climb ladders, bend, stretch, push, pull, lift, and transport AVL equipment
  • Successful background check, reference checking, and drug/alcohol screening clearance
  • Acknowledgment and agreement of GAC’s Statement of Faith and Community Covenant
  • Interest to contribute the GAC school community outside of the classroom as a coach, student advisor, student club leader, or assist with other co-curricular activities is a “plus”
  • Successful background check and drug/alcohol clearance
